I pushed at a number of doors and finally, at Global TV, one opened. Called their, “New Producers’ Series”, it was a commitment to air some actual Canadian content that the CRTC extracted from Global as a condition for their licence renewal. I wrote the first draft of the script, had to endure ridiculous script meetings in the boardroom of the Global TV network during which the executives tried to pretend that they were Hollywood film moguls who knew everything about making blockbuster films and finally got to film this half hour TV comedy with Graham Greene, Tom Jackson and Jackie Burroughs. Whenever I bump in to Graham, he tells me he still watches it on his home video and it is one of his favourite performances.

Global's New Producers series is all about giving first-timers a shot on TV, right? So you just have to wonder what Guy Sprung, Jackie Burroughs, Grahm Greene and Tom Jackson are doing in the credits of this week's New Producers show, Mama's Boys.
